Dad was born in a farmhouse in Comboyne NSW on 22 October 1921 and spent most of his childhood in Comboyne and the Atherton tablelands in QLD.
He worked on his fathers farm and also delivered mail on horseback.
Dad first attempted to enlist in the army on the 5.11.1940 aged 19 years and served in the 2/1 Infantry Battalion where he served in New Guinea.
After discharge from the army Dad went to work for the NSW government railways for 10 years as a Steam locomotive fireman and engine driver. During this time he built our family home in Birmingham Gardens where he lived with my mother, June for 57 years. After leaving the railway he then completed his Carpentry and Joinery apprenticeship in Newcastle and went on to work at the Mater hospital in Waratah NSW as a Carpenter for 25 years until he retired.
Dad was an avid reader sometimes reading up to three books simultaneously and he continued to do this until a few days prior to his death in June 2018 two days after my mothers birthday.
Dad lost his zest for life after losing my mum in 2016, he is survived by his 8 children.
